Vladimir Putin signs record military budget for 2025

DRecord military spending. As Moscow continues its offensive in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin approved the budget plans for 2025, drastically increasing that of defense. According to CNN, approximately $126 billion (13.5 trillion rubles) will be allocated to the sector, or approximately 32.5% of federal spending. This defense budget is approximately $28 billion higher than the 2024 budget, which had already shattered records.

Spending on war and security agencies is twice as much as that on education, health, social policy and the national economy. Lawmakers in both houses of the Russian Parliament, the State Duma and the Federation Council, have already approved this budget plan over the past ten days.

Finally, according to a study, Russia's military potential will reach its limits within a year and a half. A new mobilization of part of the population would therefore be essential for Moscow.

At the same time, kyiv continues to receive billions of dollars in aid from its Western allies. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, one of Ukraine's main backers, announced on Monday more than 650 million euros ($684 million) worth of military equipment, which is expected to be delivered in December.

Russian forces nevertheless remain larger and better equipped, intensifying their attacks in recent weeks. On the front in the east of the country, the advances of the Russian army accelerated to a level not seen since the start of the war.
