a professor arrested, suspected of having downloaded more than 100,000 child pornography images

A physics professor was arrested Thursday, November 28 at his home in Longvic, near , in Côte-d'Or, for possession and distribution of child pornography images, BFMTV learned this Monday, December 2. He is suspected of having downloaded more than 100,000 files of this type.

According to our information, Cyrill K., 45, worked as a physics and digital sciences teacher at the Stephen-Liégeard high school in Brochon, near Dijon.

Placed in police custody, he admitted the facts, evoking a “fantasy” occurring during alcoholic evenings spent alone. The forty-year-old also claimed that the minors visible in these images were aged between 13 and 16 years old.

Spotted during a cyber surveillance operation

Cyrill K. was spotted by investigators during a cybersurveillance operation, carried out after the opening of a preliminary investigation by the Dijon public prosecutor's office.

During their research, the police identified an IP address, this unique identifier assigned to each computer, having downloaded more than 100,000 child pornography files between May 2023 and September 2024. It was that of the teacher of 45 years old.

During the search of his home, the police found 16 digital media which contained child pornography files.

Placed under judicial supervision

The physics teacher admitted, in addition to downloading the child pornography files, to having shared this content with other users, for which he is also being prosecuted.

Contacted by BFMTV, the Dijon public prosecutor's office confirms that the man was presented to the public prosecutor's office and placed under judicial supervision. In particular, he is subject to a ban on practicing his profession as a teacher and to an obligation of care.

Before this affair, and at this stage of the investigations, the professor was unknown to the police. Cyrill K. benefits from a deferred appearance. He is due to be tried in January 2025.
