US special envoy Amos Hochstein reportedly informed Israel, in a letter delivered on Monday, of alleged violations of the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon, according to Israeli media.
The sources cited by Ynet revealed that Hochstein highlighted “Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement, mainly the visible and audible return of Israeli drones in the skies of Beirut.” The sources also noted that “for the ceasefire to last, we need restraint from all parties.”
France initially raised concerns about Israeli violations, as first reported by Ynet on Sunday. However, the United States has now joined these warnings. Mr. Hochstein, who played a key role in negotiating the deal, reportedly addressed the accusations to Israeli officials in his letter.
On Monday, Foreign Minister Gideon Saar responded to the allegations during a meeting with his French counterpart, Jean-Noël Barrot. Saar said Israel was not violating the agreement, but was implementing it in response to violations by Hezbollah, which he said required immediate action.
“Hezbollah’s presence south of the Litani is a fundamental violation of the agreement. It must move north,” Mr Saar said. He also responded to France's allegations that Israel had failed to report Hezbollah's actions to the international commission and had used lethal force, causing civilian casualties.
Mr. Saar called on the Lebanese government to “clearly authorize the Lebanese army to carry out the actions requested of it under the agreement”.
