False start for Stéphane Bern. A few hours after announcing, this Sunday, December 1 in the program “Cmedia” on France 5, the participation of Paul McCartney in the reopening concert of Notre-Dame on December 7, the singer's entourage and his French producer, Jackie Lombard, strongly denied the information.
“The production denies live participation”
“(Paul McCartney) received an invitation. It's a great honor for him. The production denies live participation. There's no recording planned either.”confided Jackie Lombard to BFMTV. She specifies that the confusion could come from the two concerts planned at the Paris La Défense Arena on December 4 and 5, as part of the “Got Back” world tour. “There have been a lot of rumors about this due to the fact that his two Paris concerts fall in the same week, but he is on tour and has to leave quickly.”she explains.
The vagueness set in following the enthusiastic announcement by Stéphane Bern, presenter of the reopening concert on France 2. The latter affirmed that the former Beatles, aged 82, would perform the famous title “Imagine” by John Lennon, specifying that it was a “much awaited moment“. “As it is a song with very liturgical lyrics in a certain way, he had exceptional permission to sing inside” he added, although the lyrics of the title evoke a world “sans religion“. “I was bewitched by the charm of Mélanie Taravant!”
But according to those around him, interviewed by BFMTV, “Stéphane moved forward a little“. The host would have consulted a provisional conductor who did not reflect the final programming. Shortly after his appearance on set, the host made his mea culpa on social networks, while leaving the door open to a possible surprise : “I let myself be carried away by my enthusiasm and I was bewitched by the charm of Melanie Taravant !“, he wrote this Sunday afternoon on X. “Nothing is confirmed for Sir McCartney but I pray for it every day! Positive thinking is creative!” he adds.
Despite the absence of Paul McCartney, the event promises to be a highlight. The Notre-Dame reopening concert, organized five years after the fire which ravaged part of the cathedral, will bring together a prestigious line-up of artists. Clara Luciani and Vianney will be the headliners, alongside classical music stars and DJ Michaël Canitrot.
