Minister Ben-Gvir bans call to prayer in mosques

The Israeli Minister of National Security takes a new step. The racist Itamar Ben-Gvir wants to silence the adhan, the Muslim call to prayer which resonates from mosques. His reason? The noise would “disturb” Israelis living nearby.

Concretely, the police will now be able to confiscate loudspeakers and impose fines. A directive which ignites the powder in an already explosive context.

“It’s a matter of common sense,” he said on Saturday on X, ordering law enforcement to seize mosque loudspeakers and impose fines on violators. A decision taken with his colleague Idit Silman, who denounces “a sound anarchy”.

The measure ignited the powder. “Ben-Gvir is playing with fire,” protests Mansour Abbas of the Joint Arab List. Even within the ranks of the Knesset, criticism is rife. “This troublemaker will only stop when everything explodes,” alarms MP Gilad Kariv.

This new provocation is part of a series of provocative actions by the far-right minister, who had already caused a scandal in August by evoking the construction of a synagogue on the Esplanade des Mosques – an outing immediately denied by the Netanyahu cabinet .
