An Alsatian house caught fire on Sunday December 1, 2024, around 11:30 p.m., in the small village of Siegen, in Bas-Rhin. The resident, a 67-year-old man, inhaled smoke and was transported to the Wissembourg hospital center. His days are not in danger.
“According to the first witnesses, the person lived alone and the fire started from a wood stove.“, explains the mayor of Siegen, René Gast, present at the scene of the accident during the night and this Monday morning.
The man left his house at the start of the fire and went to see his neighbor, who alerted the emergency services. “If we have to rehouse him there is no problem we will do it, but we are waiting to see with his family“, adds the city councilor.
The fire seemed to be out on Sunday evening, December 1, but it started again this Monday, December 2, very early in the morning. Firefighters were still on site at 8 a.m. and were clearing out the burned house.
