In Montauban, parking at the station has been paying since the beginning of October. In Toulouse dropping off or picking up a loved one in Matabiau by car has become complicated while associations are calling for more bus connections and earlier in the morning.
In Toulouse Matabiau, there is drop-off parking with 15 minutes free. “It gets saturated very quickly and 30 free minutes would be welcome. Perhaps we should favor those who come from far away because the inhabitants of Toulouse or the near periphery still benefit from a network of public transport“, suggests Nicole Asencio co-chairs the Autatethe association of transport users in the Toulouse area.
The Grand Matabiau project plans a large hall with 1,000 bicycle spaces, but no additional parking spaces for cars. “This is great for everyday trips between home and work. Maybe one day we will look like Amsterdam. But that does not solve the problem of TGV travelers. By bike, you can hardly carry your luggage“, explains Nicole Asencio.
Autate would like more bus lines arriving in Matabiau. “The metro starts quite early, but if you look in the suburbs, if you are not on a metro line or a Linéo, you have to take your car” laments Nicole Asencio.
In Montauban, the SNCF this year entrusted the management of the Villebourbon station car park to Effiait thus became chargeable to the great dismay of train users in Tarn-et-Garonne. “We must find a solution so that station car parks are primarily used by travelers for whom it must remain free. Why not find some kind of reimbursement for parking against the train ticket, a bit like in stores or big cities where you get one or two hours of free parking for a purchase in a store in town.”
