Police said on Sunday that the two victims of the fire which broke out at the home of Senator Inoguchi Kuniko last Wednesday were her husband Takashi (80), professor emeritus at the University of Tokyo, and her first daughter (33 years old).
The disaster had destroyed the 150 square meters of the family apartment, which is on the top floor of a building located near the Kôrakuen metro station, in the capital.
If the criminal trail is very weak, according to the authorities, the cause seems difficult to establish due to the intensity of the fire, which would have started in or next to the reception room. It took firefighters around eight and a half hours to bring the flames under control.
Inoguchi Kuniko, 72, is a specialist in international politics. She represented Japan between 2002 and 2004 during the Disarmament Conferences, and was first elected to parliament in 2005.
Inoguchi Takashi, professor emeritus at the University of Tokyo, was one of the victims of the fire.
