A first step towards freezing the conflict could take place after more than 1,000 days of fighting in the war in Ukraine. The Ukrainian president said he was ready for a ceasefire but under conditions.
Could this be a major turning point in the war in Ukraine? For the first time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says he is ready to temporarily cede Ukrainian territories controlled by Russia. “If we want to end the hot phase of the war, we must have NATO protection on the territory of Ukraine that we control (…) then Ukraine can recover the rest of its territory diplomatically”, he declares on television. The Ukrainian president is therefore ready to make territorial concessions as Russia gains ground and intensifies its strikes.
Today, Vladimir Putin's army occupies and controls nearly 18% of Ukraine, territories that Volodymyr Zelensky would therefore agree to temporarily cede on condition that NATO protects the rest of the country. However, until now, Vladimir Putin is firmly opposed to the alliance arriving at the gates of Russia. Far from a cease-fire, a few days ago he raised the possibility of hitting kyiv with his new hypersonic missile.
