Maurice Schaffauser was mistakenly pronounced dead last year, shortly after the death of his wife. A seemingly innocuous error except that it led to the loss of his rights.
Two months ago, Maurice Schaffauser, a 67-year-old Alsatian, died. He is still alive but he died for the administration. An error that occurred when he lost his wife last September. “My wife’s pension fund calls me to tell me that I am presumed dead”says Maurice Schaffauser. He must then launch into an administrative battle to regain his rights, particularly with social security, which he calls every day. Considered deceased, his Vitale card is blocked, a difficult ordeal when he already has to deal with the loss of his wife.
To prove that he is alive and well, Maurice Schaffauser goes to the town hall every day. Error from social security, the pension fund or funeral directors? To date, Maurice Schaffauser has not received a clear answer. Social security, however, assures him that his situation should return to normal by mid-December 2024.
