U21 match summary: Figueroa scores one goal and two returns in Liverpool’s draw at Reading

The home side took the lead almost immediately, but the Reds, who James McConnell and Jayden Danns were ahead of within minutes of injury, responded well.

Figueroa’s close finish equalized on the stroke of half-time and the scoreline remained locked despite good chances for both teams in the rest of the match.

Reading came out cold to Liverpool to take the lead within two minutes of kick-off at Aldershot Town.

Tyler Sackey broke free down the right flank to take a shot over the top and fired a low shot in front of the Reds goal. Jeremiah Okine-Peters initially evaded Jeremiah Okine-Peters, but Emmanuel Osho was behind him and, under pressure from Josh Davidson, the ball went past Kornel

Mr.

The visitors rallied and then took advantage of a spell in the lead, but failed to make the correct final pass to give themselves a clear chance.

McConnell, making his first appearance in four months, managed to find a more direct route to goal with a 25-yard dribble that saw him overcome three challenges and enter the box. But his final shot was slightly deflected and was saved by the goalkeeper

.

Reading stopper Tom Norcott then repelled Ranel Young seconds later, collecting the Liverpool striker’s hit after he perfectly controlled an elevated pass and ran behind.

Résumé

Just after half an hour, Figueroa’s effort from the edge of the penalty area was largely blocked following a James Norris pullback created by the back heel

Trey Nyoni’s inventive signature line.

A Reading fightback approaching the interval saw Joe Barough dangerously sneak in from the right flank towards the ‘D’ and burst through on goal. Misciur found it.

The Reds’ play deserved more and they equalized two minutes before half-time. In characteristic style, Kieran Morrison dribbled down the infield down the flank and dragged a low ball across the box, which allowed Figueroa

to seize.

Barry Lewtas’ side were on the verge of completing a turnaround two minutes after the restart.

Morrison powered Tommy Pilling’s overlapping point from the right side of the box and the latter’s mounting effort bounced wide of the straight.

Liverpool needed a vital block from Norris to thwart Okine-Peters when Misciur failed to collect a deep cross and the ball landed for the Reading striker.

Osho then sprinted across the left channel and, after opening his body to form a curler in the opposite top corner, guided the finish too high.
