On Monday, November 25, the town hosted a large gathering of soldiers from all over France to pay tribute to Samir Bajja, who died 10 years ago. He was a child of Laroque where his family still lives. Initially tempted by photography, he chose to join the army after his military service. After 16 years of service, he suffered a helicopter accident on November 29, 2014 during night training in Burkina Faso and was buried in Laroque on December 8, 2014.
This year, for the 10th anniversary of his death, the army wanted to organize its tribute to Laroque, in the presence of the joint oil base regiment, the 4th special forces helicopter regiment, volunteer executives and the music of the foreign legion.
“A man of charisma, rigor…”
The important ceremony chaired by General Engineer Jérôme Lafitte brought together nearly 200 representatives of the army. Under the eyes of Mayor Pierrick Ciribino, MP Manon Bouquin, sub-prefect Eric Suzanne, president of the Community of Communes Michel Fratissier, departmental councilor Jacques Rigaud, representatives of veterans and firefighters.
Samir Bajja was described as “out of the ordinary”, “man of charisma, rigor and commitment” which commands respect. The inaugurations of the stele dedicated to him and the leisure area named after Samir Bajja concluded the event. For his father, “It’s magnificent, it’s an important moment for the members of the family, for the soldiers, the brotherhood between them is beautiful.”
