It was in a packed Arena of Saint-Etienne Métropole that the Loire derby was played this Friday evening, between Saint-Chamond Andrézieux-Bouthéon basketball and the Chorale de Roanne, on behalf of the 14th day of Pro B basketball. If the supporters of the Gier valley were the most numerous in the stands, on the floor it was good the Roanne team which took the upper hand by winning 91 to 97.
It was in the last quarter and even in the last minutes of the match that everything was decided and that the Choraliens doubled the Scabbistes in score. “Frustrating”Mathieu Guichard, the leader of SCABB, tells us in the press room, but even if he remembers the defeat, he finds positives in this evening: “The people who came saw great basketball. It’s good for the region, we prove that there is football yes, but basketball too and it was great to see a room with an atmosphere like that”.
The stakes were elsewhere than on the floor, becausethere had been no meeting between Saint-Chamond and Roanne since April 4, 2019. “We’ve been waiting for this for 5 years! The derby is tense, we look for each other, it’s a good atmosphere!” exult the supporters of both camps.
