A first since the start of the war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with Sky News on Friday November 29 that he was open to a ceasefire with Russia, if the territories controlled by Moscow are placed under “the aegis of NATO” while waiting for their returnthrough diplomacy.”.

The head of state was responding to a question about new US President Donald Trump's intention to end the war by ceding Ukrainian territories to Moscow. “This is a solution to end the hot phase of the war, we can give NATO membership to the Ukrainian territories that we control”as specified by Volodymyr Zelensky. “We must act quickly. And then, on occupied Ukrainian territory, Ukraine will be able to recover them through diplomatic channels”he added.

This is the first time that a Ukrainian leader has admitted the idea of a loss, albeit temporary, of Ukrainian territory. However, he still refuses the idea, put forward by Moscow, that the territories occupied in Donbas and Crimea belong to Russia.
