Switzerland has started the Euro perfectly, which it is playing for the first time at home. In Basel, the Swiss handball players beat the Faroe Islands with a score of 28-25 on Friday.
The Swiss have never won a match in a Euro, a competition in which they are participating for the second time after 2022.
Led by Argovienne Daphné Gautschi (8 goals), Switzerland was in the lead throughout the match, having a lead of up to ten goals (19-9) shortly after half-time. The players coached by the Norwegian Knut Ove Joa scared each other at the end of the match, but were able to resist the Faroese comeback.
The Swiss will face the Danes, bronze medalists at the Paris Olympic Games this summer, on Sunday for their second match in Group D. They will conclude this preliminary round on Tuesday against Croatia.
