Fire in an abandoned house in Villefranche-de-Rouergue: it had already been ravaged by flames in 2023

This Friday evening, a fire broke out in an abandoned house, near the bastide town of Villefranche-de-Rouergue.

This is the second time in the space of a year that this abandoned house, on the Petit Languedoc promenade in Villefranche-de-Rouergue, has been engulfed by fire. This Friday, November 29, 2024, around 5:30 p.m., local residents were worried by a burning smell spreading in the street, reports La Dépêche du Midi.

Alerted, the fire brigade from the station intervened immediately. They are currently battling the fire inside the home. The Villefranche-de-Rouergue company gendarmes are also on site to support the firefighters in securing the scene.

Already a fire in September 2023

In September 2023, this house had already been partially destroyed, particularly inside, by flames. A fire which had been much more violent and had affected several vehicles parked in front of the property. Abandoned for several years, it was regularly squatted by several individuals.

Since the fire at the end of 2023, wooden panels have been put up to seal the various entrances. Once the fire is under control, findings as part of a gendarmerie investigation should be carried out to understand the causes of this second fire in this abandoned house.
