Speaking on Thursday, November 28, at the end of the meeting of the countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) – a military alliance bringing together several former Soviet republics – which was held in Astana, Kazakhstan, Vladimir Putin reiterated his threats to use Russia’s new medium-range missile, the Orechnik, in response to Western missiles fired by Ukraine against his country.
To the great delight of the patriotic press, the Russian head of state did not rule out that this new missile would be used to destroy “decision-making centers” in kyiv – a euphemism for official buildings – while detailing the devastating characteristics of the Orechnik. “Vladimir Putin spoke with immense pride about the Orechnik”, underlines the tabloid close to the Kremlin Moscow Komsomolets. It would have no equivalent in the world, it would be impossible to intercept and, fired in salvo, it would be of “power comparable to a nuclear strike”, lists the newspaper.
While Vladimir Putin was painting this apocalyptic picture, Russian Patriarch Kirill was speaking at the plenary session in Moscow on 26e congress of the World Council of the Russian People, an organization headed by the Orthodox Church which advocates “spiritual rebirth” of the country.
