Faced with the recurring episodes of flooding which ravage Dar Chaabane El Fihri, an innovative solution has emerged. Tunisian start-up Wayout, in partnership with the local municipality and Philip Morris International, has deployed 246 “Zigofilters” in the city’s sanitation network. These intelligent devices, real shields against waste, mark a major step forward in the fight against flooding and the preservation of the environment.
Urban upheaval finally contained
Waste, by blocking pipes, is often the cause of floods which paralyze many cities. In Dar Chaabane El Fihri, this problem had become a real headache. The Zigofilters, designed by Wayout, provide a concrete and sustainable response. By capturing solid waste before it enters the sewers, these filters prevent blockages and thus limit the risk of flooding.
“This initiative is a real turning point for our city,” rejoices Yahia Mejdoub, Chief Engineer & eco-advisor of the municipality of Dar Chabben El Fehri. “By working hand in hand with Wayout and Philip Morris International, we are strengthening our resilience to climate hazards and preserving the quality of our environment. »
A virtuous solution for a sustainable future
Created in 2020, Wayout has quickly established itself as a key player in green innovation in Tunisia. With more than 2,000 filters already deployed in 22 municipalities, the start-up demonstrates its effectiveness on a large scale. “Wayout has designed a practical response to a complex problem,” emphasizes Mohamed Rammeh, Managing Director of Wayout. “Zigofilters are much more than just a technical device, they represent a real sustainable solution for a cleaner and safer future. »
This project, which is part of a global approach to preserving the environment, is a great example of collaboration between the public and private sectors. It shows that innovation, when it serves the common good, can provide concrete responses to the environmental challenges we face.
