No more fixed prices for solar energy producers! Groupe E will change the way it pays for photovoltaics from January. Until now, there was a fixed rate of 14.45 per kilowatt hour (kWh) for the whole year.
In 2025, Groupe E will move to a quarterly system which is based on market prices, therefore with lower prices in summer (because supply exceeds demand during this season) than in winter.
Groupe E guarantees a floor price in summer, when prices are low, to allow owners to amortize their photovoltaic installations. We do not yet know this minimum price. The Confederation will set it soon. The new takeover price should be between 8.6 and 13.8 cents per kWh, depending on the quarter.
All of this makes this new system unclear for solar panel owners. But the director of Group E assures that the company will not make a profit at their expense and that this change is beneficial to everyone.
“The fixed takeover price has been very high for the last two years. It was lower previously. The floor price makes it possible to make solar panels profitable and that is what is most important. In addition, the price paid for these installations is also included in the calculation of the price for all consumers. A price closer to the market is more fair for everyone”, explains Jacques Mauron.
The energy company anticipates the new electricity law, which will come into force in 2026. “Today, we have 600 different distributors who apply 600 different take-back prices. The situation will be harmonized,” continues Jacques Mauron.
Groupe E sent an information letter on the new prices to the households and businesses concerned this Friday. The canton of Friborg has 17,000 photovoltaic installations.
