Christmas activities: what will be the menu this year in ?

Lights all

This year, Christmas will be “baroque”. In any case, it is with this in mind that the Christmas decorations were designed. The illuminations will “highlight the city’s tree-lined heritage”, underlines Sophie Palant-Le Hegarat, culture assistant. The illuminations will be officially launched by the mayor, Saturday December 7, 2024, Place Aristide-Briand, following a stroll with the Kinaklov fanfare which will begin at 5 p.m. Then the lights will illuminate the city every day, until January 5, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Santa Claus will leave his mark on the city with his throne, his giant mailbox, his sleigh and his ski gondola to be found dispatched throughout the city. The unmissable giant Christmas tree will take pride of place at Place Aristide Briand, another will be installed in front of the station.

Sunday, December 8, the Océanote ride will take over Place Paul-Bert to make little ones dream in a musical submarine. Saturday, December 14, the Zygos Brass Band will get the whole family moving to rhythms straight from New . The last weekend before Christmas, the Kafi fanfare and its Royal Sapiens show will take over on Saturday. On Sunday, Place Saint-Louis will be transformed into a ski resort with the Machtiernk Company arriving with its strange machines and funny ski instructors.

  • Heading for Keryado and New Town

They will be stars for one night. Giant portraits of Lorient residents, Keryado and Nouvelle-Ville will be projected on the facade of buildings on Thursday December 19, at 23 rue Pierre-Philippe and Friday December 20, Quai de Rohan. Photographer Julien Nonnon and Rebirth Production are currently leading a project, with Radio 162, a Lorient radio station, to meet residents, photograph them and record their wishes for the year 2024. During two screening evenings, concerts are planned with the Ooz Band and the Babali Acoustic Band. Artists perched on stilts will add a touch of poetry with giant soap bubbles.

  • Businesses in the starting blocks

For the third year, a Christmas market will take place, from December 21 to 24, on Place Paul-Bert, with 42 craft exhibitors. We can also drink mulled wine and eat cupcakes, while listening to concerts. On December 20, a “yum market”, with only food producers and artisans, will be held on Place François-Mitterrand, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. In the Maréchal-Foch district, merchants were inspired by the film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to slip winning tickets into Christmas foils, which will allow them to win surprise gifts. Good to know: the center's stores will be open on Sundays December 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd. Les Halles de Merville will be exceptionally open on Mondays, December 23 and 30.
