Fnac and the Ministry of National Education, organizers of the Prix Goncourt des Lycéens, brought together this Thursday, November 28 in Rennes, the 13 high school students national delegates for the final deliberations behind closed doors.
After more than two months of diligent reading of the 16 books competing for the Prize, from the first selection of the Académie Goncourt, and following meetings in the region with the authors, the high school students chose to award the 37th Prix Goncourt des Lycéens has Sandrine Collette for his novel Godmother before dawn published by JC Lattès.
The latest novel by Sandrine Collette, who has lived in the Morvan for around ten years and entered literature through detective fiction, has the feel of a dark peasant chronicle, until a hungry and wild little girl, Madelaine, emerges from the forests. , comes to question the order of things. This book is intended to be an “earth novel”. She anchors this peasant chronicle in a lost place, a hostile land where the winters are endless. Three peasant families work the land, which is not theirs. The days are punctuated by work in the fields and the fear of their masters… One day, a woman discovers a lost and starving child in her barn after a period of extreme cold. In this universe frozen by ancestral servitudes, this courageous little girl will little by little shake up all habits and defy the prohibitions dictated by her masters.
Reached by telephone by the jury, the winner did not hide her joy:
What an adventure! It must be one of the rare times when words fail me, I think my heart is beating a little too fast, it doesn’t reflect my joy, otherwise I would be jumping around saying a lot of bad words, I’m going to avoid it. .. Thank you very much!
