The gendarmes discovered the lifeless body of a sixty-year-old in Gisieux (Indre-et-Loire), Thursday November 28. The man was to be presented before the Assize Court for acts of rape against his daughter-in-law during the 1990s.
A 66-year-old man committed suicide at his home in Gisieux (Indre-et-Loire), Thursday November 28. He was to appear the same day before the Indre-et-Loire assizes for rape of his daughter-in-law between 1994 and 1996, reports The New Republic.
The accused's lawyer was unable to contact him and became concerned when she did not see him at the hearing, as explained The Parisian. The gendarmes were therefore sent to the scene to check if the sixty-year-old was well. But upon entering his home, they found the man dying, after having shot himself with a gun. He died from his injuries.
“He decided to punish me”
For the civil parties, this situation is a real blow. Indeed, the accused having died, the public action against him was terminated. “He will never be convicted. Justice will never be done,” declared the civil parties upon the announcement of the sixty-year-old’s death.
The victim also expressed her anger: “He decided to punish me,” she lamented, deeply angry. Everything goes out, everything disappears.” She was taken care of by a psychologist from the France Victimes 37 association as well as the feminist collective against rape (CFCV) and by the firefighters.
