Thursday night was eventful for residents of Passage. A car crossing the Route de la Garonne suddenly caught fire and caused collateral damage.
Thursday, November 28, around 9 p.m., the Garonne road, at Passage-d’Agen, was the scene of an explosion followed by a fire. Firefighters who arrived on the scene discovered a car burning.
Other nearby vehicles melted from the heat. Another consequence of the accident was that a gas pipe ruptured just under the car which caught fire. No injuries were reported, but the gas was quickly cut off along the entire street as a safety measure. The day of Friday 29 was devoted to work to get the gas back on at the end of the afternoon.
“Fortunately, for the moment, the weather is nice, it could have been worse,” sighs a lady. Along the route de la Garonne, it was directly impacted, just like its neighbor: it was their cars that melted. The two residents told us how the events unfolded.
An entire neighborhood deprived of gas
“A gentleman was driving by in the street on Thursday evening. All of a sudden, he noticed that sparks were coming from under his vehicle… And suddenly, it caught fire! He stopped in an emergency. By burning, his car melted those around it, including mine and that of my neighbor. »
Impressive damage and cars ready for scrapping. Of the vehicle from which the fire started, only the skeleton remains. The front and rear of the affected cars around have completely melted. A smell of burning plastic still permeated the atmosphere yesterday.
The other consequence of the fire was the rupture of a gas pipe. “This explosion triggered a leak,” continues the resident. “So, still in the emergency, the gas had to be cut off throughout the neighborhood. We’re not doing too badly, it’s not too cold yet, but we can’t wait for everything to be restored. »
