Bus passenger tries to escape control and flees across train tracks

Near Mechelen train station, the Rivierenland local police zone, in collaboration with De Lijn, carried out a major check on bus passengers. One of the passengers clearly did not appreciate the control and fled via the nearby railway tracks, before finally being caught in the garden of a house.

According to the police, the checks mainly targeted nuisances, groups of traveling offenders and drug-related crime. In addition to De Lijn, a dog team from the federal police also took part in the operation. A total of 97 buses were checked, with 1,370 passengers on board.

Seven people were found in possession of drugs and two minors were arrested for disturbing the peace. These included a boy who was verbally aggressive towards the inspectors and did not want to leave the bus, and another boy, outside the bus, who started shouting and screaming to deliberately disrupt the work of inspectors.

Another passenger, a 20-year-old man, even chose to flee. He threw himself onto the railway tracks, hoping to escape. Rail traffic had to be interrupted as a precaution. Moments later, police found the man in the backyard of a house. The suspect was arrested. It turned out that he was in an irregular situation and was therefore handed over to the immigration service.
