The quiet village of Jeansnestled in the Aisne, was the scene of a spectacular disaster this Wednesday, November 27 in the evening. Around 7 p.m., a violent fire broke out in a second home located on Route de Bancigny. The house, uninhabited at the time of the events, was completely destroyed by flamesbut fortunately the incident did not cause any casualties.

It is Sylvain Bourgeoismayor of the town, who raised the alarm: “Leaving the town hall, I saw an orange glow in the street. The house was already on fire,” he says. The rapid intervention of the emergency services made it possible to avoid a tragedy, as well as the spread of the flames to neighboring houses.

A massive mobilization of firefighters

In response to this fire, an impressive system was deployed. No less than 20 firefighterscoming from the relief centers of Hirson, Laon, Plomion, Montcornet and Marle, mobilized to fight the blaze. When they arrived on site, “the house was completely engulfed in flames”, testifies Lieutenant Baptiste Haupa, group leader of the Hirson rescue center, in charge of operations.

The coordination of relief proved effective, in particular thanks to the upstream intervention of the mayor of Jeantes. “As soon as we arrived, he had already given us valuable information on locating the water needed to extinguish the flames,” emphasizes Lieutenant Haupa. A detail that made it possible to limit the spread of the firethus avoiding an even more catastrophic scenario.

An evening under surveillance to avoid any resumption

Although brought under control within a few hours, the fire required prolonged presence of emergency services on site to monitor the area and prevent any resumption of the flames. The house, which belongs to a Dutch national, remained unrecognizable after the destructive passage of the fire.

Behind this intense intervention, relief predominates in the town of Jeantes. No injuries, no human loss, and spread avoided thanks to rapid and effective mobilization. The incident, however, reminds us of the importance of constant vigilance in the face of fire risks, even in rural areas.
