Inflation remains stable in November, energy prices still down year-on-year

INSEE published this Friday the inflation figures in for the month of November.

The general increase in prices is estimated at 1.3%, “quasi-stability” compared to the previous month (1.2%).

What is it carried by?

Inflation figures still much lower than in recent years. Consumer prices increased by 1.3% in France in November over one year, according to a provisional estimate from INSEE released this Friday, after 1.2% in October, a “quasi-stability”according to the Institute (new window).

Fresh produce always increases

In detail, apart from tobacco (new window) (+8.7% over one year), it is still the prices of services that drive inflation. Still according to this provisional estimate, they increased by 2.5% on average compared to November 2023. Food prices (new window)they remain stable (+0.2% over one year), even if those of fresh products (+1.8%) increase more quickly, while the rest of food products decrease slightly (-0.1%).

The biggest drop is in energy prices (new window). In November 2024, it costs on average 0.7% less than at the same period in 2023. This is a new reduction, although less marked than that observed last month (-2%). Manufactured products also decreased slightly (-0.2%).

After September (+1.1%) and October (+1.2%), November 2024 is therefore the third consecutive month during which inflation is below the 1.5% mark. We have to go back to mid-2021 to find evidence of such low inflation dynamics.
