ASSE: a Greens player takes a stand in favor of Abdelhamid

Very solid for his return to the field against MHSC, Yunis Abdelhamid received a lot of support from one of his teammates.

A key recruit of the Saint-Etienne summer, Yunis Abdelhamid was enlisted for his leadership qualities, but the status of the ASSE captain very quickly weakened. His very average performances were quickly singled out, and the public did not spare him. After the huge 8-0 slap against , the Moroccan was stuck on the bench 4 times in 6 matches.

With the absence of Nadé against last weekend, number 5 logically found a starting place, but without the armband. Author of a very good match during this narrow victory (1-0), Abdelhamid did not really surprise his teammates, who always kept confidence in him, starting with Dylan Batubinsika.

“He was hit, it’s normal”

“I found Yunis very good in the last match, he was vengeful after his last performances. He was not at the level he wanted and at the level we expected him to be but… no one at the club was surprised by what he did against Montpellier. He's a hard worker, he's a sure thing, he's someone recognized in Ligue 1. What's important in these situations is how we get back up. He was hit, that's normal. Sometimes we are treated in certain ways by the fans, we try not to pay attention to it but we know it. He was aware I think, he was touched by it and yet he always kept a smile and was serious in training. He has worked a lot, there are no surprises, he has great mental strength,” said the central defender, who does not think that the loss of the armband has changed anything.

“I saw the same player without the armband as with it. It didn't change anything. He's the one who spoke during the warm-up, he's the one who spoke in the locker room, he's a natural leader. It has absolutely not died out, on the contrary. Even when he was on the bench during previous meetings, he was very present, he was the captain of this team,” assured the Congolese at a press conference, in comments reported by EVECT.
