When there is no more, there is still some. Larian has already launched the development of new projects outside the franchise Dungeons & Dragonsbut the studio does not intend to abandon its successful RPG anytime soon. After the addition of modding tools on September 5, the developers are preparing a massive eighth patch which already promises to delight players. In a post shared on Steam and on the game forum, the Larian teams tell us that these additions will make their debut on Baldur’s Gate III from next year. However, the exact release date is still unknown to us.
Since Patch 8 will be the final content update – with the exception of extended support for modding tools – the developers have worked hard to get off to a flying start. The RPG will finally receive three major new features that players were no longer expecting: cross-play functionality, a photo mode and 12 new subclasses.
Cross-play made easy
As soon as the update launches, players will be able to adventure with companions from other platforms. The implementation of this feature will also be accompanied by cross-platform progression of multiplayer games in order to facilitate gaming sessions. Cross-play games will be hosted on the Larian Network and can be followed on any version of the game. To celebrate this good news, Baldur’s Gate III take advantage of a 20% reduction on Steam, GOG and PlayStation to convince die-hard gamers who are still hesitant to take the plunge with their friends.
New ways to play
With Patch 8, each main class will get a new subclassoffering new ways to approach existing roles. Exclusive skills, invocations, animations and dialogues will accompany these subclasses, of which here is the complete list:
- Barde : College of Glamour
- Barbare : Path of Giants
- Clerc : Death Domain
- Druide : Circle of Stars
- Paladin : Oath of the Crown
- Warrior: Arcane Archer
- Monk: Drunken Master
- Ranger: Swarmkeeper
- Thief: Swashbuckler
- Ensorceleur : Shadow Magic
- Occultist: Hexblade
- Magicien : Bladesinging
The details of each gameplay as well as the first animations can be found in Larian’s post (available only in English)
A photo mode without limits
With the inclusion of photo mode, players will be able to make their wildest dreams come true. This will allow you to orient the camera, move the characters, choose defined poses or even access a whole bunch of retouching options. It will be possible to change the lighting of scenes, to reinforce visual realism, but also to add stickers, frames, emojis or even to pose in selfie mode.
A test of the patch and all of its features will be available in January. More information on this will be shared on the game’s forums and on Steam closer to the deadline.
