Antananarivo: 28 houses reduced to ashes after a fire – LINFO.re

The victims found refuge in a public primary school in the neighborhood after this fire which occurred Tuesday at Analamahitsy Carrière in Antananarivo. No casualties were reported.

A chaotic situation

A violent fire ravaged the neighborhood of Analamahitsy Carrière (Antananarivo) Tuesday afternoon. The disaster plunged residents into total panic. The fire, fanned by a capricious wind, consumed several houses and left destitute families, forced to abandon their possessions in haste. In the chaos, residents desperately tried to save their belongings. Mothers, their arms loaded with suitcases or clothes, participated in the efforts to spray the houses with water, while shouting for help. But despite their determination, the flames quickly took over.

A race against the flames

According to the newspaper The Madagascar Express28 houses were reduced to ashes according to some residents, although the firefighters put forward a more moderate toll: 12 homes destroyed, including several wooden and solid ones. Alerted at 2:45 p.m., firefighters arrived on site ten minutes later. However, there was a severe lack of water, forcing the teams to constantly go back and forth to supply their vans. After long hours of effort, the fire was brought under control.

Disaster victims temporarily rehoused

Although thefire caused no casualties, the material losses were considerable. The families, now homeless, were temporarily relocated to the local public primary school. Their faces bore the scars of the ordeal they had gone through, between shock and sadness. For the moment, the causes of the fire remain unknown. An investigation is underway to determine the origin of the incident. A detailed report was also sent to the urban commune of Antananarivo for possible support of the needs of the homeless.
