“I saw a woman with her face burned,” recalls a witness to the scene

What happened on the evening of Wednesday November 27, in a restaurant in Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes)? Shortly before 10 p.m., a waiter from the Cannes establishment located near the city center came to recharge the heating lamp of a table of 15 people with ethanol. In a clumsy gesture on his part, or on one of the customers, the object tipped over, igniting the table. A 35-year-old woman and two men aged 30 and 56 were seriously injured.

The victims were urgently transported to the Toulon hospital (Var), in the burns department. Gaëtan Zediar, who was dining near the restaurant on Wednesday evening, immediately came to help. He speaks of a horror scene: “We didn’t know how to react, we tried to put out the fire quickly with shovels (…). I saw a woman with her face all burned (…), people were burning like in a movie “he remembers.

The terrace reopened on Thursday morning, but the lamps were removed from the tables. A nearby restaurateur admits to taking precautions after an incident with these items.
