In a publication posted this Thursday on Facebook, journalist Adama Gaye announced his withdrawal from the political arena. This choice, motivated by personal priorities and his affection for his daughter, marks a new stage in his journey.
In his message, he justifies this decision by the need to regain serenity, often disturbed, according to him, by the tumult of recent events. “Too much noise kills the serenity. Prevents informative debate. Obstructs the manifestation of truth”he wrote, before addressing the Senegalese people directly: “You will understand my need for rest after all these adventures that I did not seek. »
Adama Gaye also discusses a series of revelations he brought to public attention, including alleged scandals linked to state interests and influential figures. Although he claims he can continue to expose facts “all true”he prefers to devote himself to other projects neglected until then. Furthermore, he grants his forgiveness to those who would interpret his “step back” other than as a free and personal choice.
In a recent context, the journalist attracted attention after being arrested by the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC). He was taken into police custody on November 22, accused of “spreading fake news” concerning the death of Mamadou Moustapha Bâ, former Minister of Finance. Adama Gaye had suggested a thorough investigation into the circumstances of this death, which he suspected was an assassination. Released on provisional liberty after his appearance before the prosecutor, he awaits his trial in flagrante delicto, scheduled for November 29, 2024.
