Amazon slashes Google Pixel 8a price one day before Black Friday

The best mid-range, but still THIS flaw

The release of Pixels a is today as anticipated as that of the classic and Pro models, is that in the mid-range segment, they often take first place. By rounding at the corners, the Google Pixel 8a breaks with the design of its predecessor and offers a more pleasant grip, its finishes are exemplary and it also has IP67 certification. On the screen side, the perfectly calibrated FHD+ OLED panel finally switches to a refresh rate of 120 Hz, a change that was expected.

However, if the Google Pixel 8a evolves on a number of points, it has not deigned to correct the main fault of this series, namely autonomy and recharging. The autonomy is lower in a compact smartphone since the battery consequently has a lower capacity (4,492 mAh here). The Pixel 8a thus remains on one day of autonomy, the same duration as the Pixel 7a, knowing that its panel consumes more energy. On the other hand, Google persists in offering 18W charging, which gives a charging time of more than an hour and a half.

The little brother of the Pixel 8? No, rather his great rival

With the Google Pixel 8a, the gap is narrowing between the Pixel a and the classic Pixel, and we’re not just talking about the price. According to our benchmarks, the Tensor G3 of the Pixel 8a is faster than that of its predecessor! However, it should be remembered that these smartphones are not looking for the best performance, but an optimal experience and fluidity, on heavy games, the Pixel 8a is just good. But the most interesting is the software aspect: 7 years of updates, Google’s AI functions and finally, the arrival two weeks ago of Gemini Nano!

Let’s not forget what has made the Google Pixel successful so far: the camera. The Google Pixel 8a has the same configuration as its predecessor with a 64 Mpx wide-angle main sensor, a 13 Mpx ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 13 Mpx front sensor. The added value here lies in image processing, and the Tensor G3 works wonders! The sharpness is good, the colorimetry sounds right and the x8 digital zoom is stunning. Only night and portrait modes pose some difficulties, but nothing that really detracts from the experience.
