Farmers in the Bouches-du-Rhône department continue their fight against economic and social conditions that they consider increasingly difficult.
Yesterday, around 80 farmers, accompanied by around twenty tractors, carried out a strong action in the towns of Istres and Entressen. Departing from Grange d'Entressen, direction Istres, two radars were covered with tires, while a mobile radar was dismantled and transported to the front of the Istres sub-prefecture, accompanied by mud and waste dumped in front of the gate. which adjoins the parking lot. This action is a response to the growing anger of farmers, who are speaking out against the Mercosur treaty and the multiple difficulties affecting their profession.
Demands that go beyond Mercosur
If the Mercosur treaty remains a central point, Bouches-du-Rhône farmers, in a national movement, also have specific demands to improve their working conditions. In a joint declaration, the FNSEA and the Young Farmers highlighted four essential points:
- Short-term and cash flow measures to support farmers.
- A drastic administrative simplification, with concrete measures in the hands of the government.
- Legislate to put entrepreneurial spirit back at the heart of agricultural policies.
- Stop European and global inconsistencies to restore ambition to European food sovereignty.
“We do this job out of passion and not to get rich”
José, a young arborist from Entresens, expressed his despair at the situation: “We mobilized to say the same things as in January, but with the change of government, nothing has changed. We do this job out of passion and not to get rich.”
For his part, Jérôme Malazy, representative of the FNSEA, underlined the need for structural measures: “We need structural measures to have income, tools to produce and visibility to be able to work. Our problems are deeper than Mercosur. It was announced by an English newspaper as the best agriculture in the world. We must keep this! »
Farmers in Bouches-du-Rhône are planning new actions, with a rally planned for this Friday in Aix-en-Provence.
