Glinda is a Sapphic Queen – yes, it's hot

Some people on social media did a huge favor for all of us who ship Glinda and Elphaba from the original Broadway play by pointing out an OG fact. Wizard of Oz livres Wickedis a basis that proves that Glinda is a grand old lady.

An article on X (formerly Twitter) is currently going viral and cites Glinda's Wikipedia page: “In Baum's latest book, Glinda d’Ozwe learn that Glinda resides in a castle with 100 of the most beautiful women in Oz at her disposal,” with the caption “this fucking royal dike.”

So we took out our tracking hat and magnifying glass to solve this case, and it turns out this social media denizen isn't wrong. There is canonical proof that Glinda likes ladies!

The fact that Glinda had a group of beautiful ladies waiting for her comes from the 14th and final installment of Baum's Oz books, Glinda d’Ozbefore dying in 1919.

But he's not the only one who thinks that Glinda is an integral part of the woman-loving camp, Wicked Star Ariana Grande, who plays the famous character in the new film, and Cynthia Erivo, who pays Elphaba, both agree that the sparkly witch is weird.

In the Out 100 cover story as Out'As Icon of the Year, Erivo – who came out as queer in 2022 – explained that Glinda and Elphaba share “true love”.

“They fall in love with the person, not just the outside. When Glinda puts this flower in her hair and realizes that all she needs is this little thing that goes “well with green”, it's not just Oh look, she has a flower in her hair. It’s actually…I see you as beautiful as you are,” Erivo said. “The story of these two is truly very special. And I think we underestimate the power of platonic love, of true friendship, of true love. »

Grande agreed with Erivo and went even further, saying her character “might be a little in the closet.” It's a sentiment that Kristen Chenoweth, who originated the role in the Tony-winning Broadway play the film is based on, agrees with. Commenting on an Instagram post featuring Grande's quote, “I thought that too a long time ago when…”

Case closed: Glinda is Mother, and we will hear no arguments!
