Tahiti, November 27, 2024 – The Council of Ministers decides to maintain hydrocarbon prices at current values for the month of December 2024. In French Polynesia, the price of a liter of gasoline at the pump remains at 155 francs.
On Wednesday, the Council of Ministers confirmed the maintenance of fuel prices at current values for the month of December. This decision is taken in an unstable context due to risks linked to current geopolitical tensions which make oil prices very volatile, varying between sharp increases and significant declines.
During the year 2024, the evolution of fuel prices in French Polynesia is currently marked by relative stability, despite significant fluctuations in international oil prices. Indeed, the Polynesian government has adopted a cautious approach by maintaining prices to protect the purchasing power of consumers by relying on the Hydrocarbon Price Regulation Fund (FRPH). A “financial effort”underlines Wednesday the press release released at the end of the council of ministers, which “not only made it possible to maintain the sale prices of fuel at sustainable levels for all Polynesians, but also made it possible to contain the prices of products and services for which the FRPH indirectly contributes” particularly for supported professions (pearl farmers, lagoon and offshore fishermen, shipowners, etc.).
