A “Pucciniana” for the centenary of Puccini’s death

Giacomo Puccini died on November 29, 1924 in Brussels where he had come to undergo surgery for lung cancer. This Friday, the Liège-Wallonia Opera hosts the tribute dedicated to him by the Italian composer Andrea Battistoni and Warner Classics is publishing an imposing box set of 23 CDs.

Po celebrate the centenary of the death of Giacomo Puccini, a few days before the premiere, the composer Andrea Battistoni gives us the keys to Puccinianaa dialogue with the music and artistic heritage of the composer of Toscaof Bohemiaof Turandotof Madame Butterfly… « Pucciniana is difficult to define,” Andrea Battistoni tells us. “A cantata could be an appropriate form but I would prefer to speak of a tribute to Puccini. My goal is clearly to pay homage to this great master on the occasion of the 100e anniversary of his death. I could have collected some of his most famous pages that the public would have instantly recognized but the result would probably have been very banal. And then, I was interested in certain documents that he left us and decided to fix his portrait from this material. »
