The alert was given early in the morning, Wednesday November 27, 2024, around 8:40 a.m. A 180 m² pavilion was completely engulfed in flames when thirty-five firefighters arrived, supported by sixteen vehicles and two hoses, at Saint-Laurent-de-Lin in the northwest of Indre-et-Loire. Soldiers from the national gendarmerie were also present on the scene.
Shocked, a woman was taken care of by emergency services and evacuated to the Trousseau CHRU, near Tours for follow-up examinations. The three occupants of the home – a couple and their son – were not injured, nor their animals, but they lost everything in the fire. A call for donations was launched to collect clothing (1). They were temporarily rehoused by the municipality in the village hall.
A technician specializing in chemical risks was also mobilized to the scene after the report of a fiber cement roof and the presence of photovoltaic panels. A particularly important precaution for firefighters, a few weeks after their exposure to asbestos, during a silo fire in Villedômer.
The management of the Touraine interdepartmental fire and rescue service then reaffirmed that it was “fully committed to the safety of these personnel”.
(1) People wishing to make a donation are invited to contact the town hall of Saint-Laurent-de-Lin.
