The MJC de Palente in Besançon takes measures to deal with financial difficulties

Will MJC Palente still be in the red for this year 2024? At a time when everyone is taking stock of the year, there is fear for this associative structure which offers activities and leisure centers. Already in 2023, the MJC posted a deficit of 56,000 euros.
Faced with this situation, director Grégory Chanez took action. Six positions were not replaced after employee departures and there was an economic layoff, the MJC organization chart was restructured. Activities are also impacted: The number of children received for schooling support is halved (80 instead of 160). There is no longer a program of shows for young audiences for the season, this represents too great a cost. For the director there is no threat of closure of the establishmenthe hopes to be able to turn the financial situation around in 2025.

Less expensive and popular activities

Since September 2024, 1,700 members are registered with the MJC in the Palente district of Besançon. Many of them are attached to this structurelike Perrine, mother of three children, she has been a regular at the association for three years. Thanks to the MJC, her children do circus, gymnastics and theater, for her it would be very annoying if the structure disappeared: “If this stops, there will be many parents who will no longer be able to take their children to activities. Financially it will be too expensive and parents will no longer be able to follow, it will deprive many children of extracurricular activities which are important for their development.“.

In order to spread the word about the association, MJC puts 2025 calendars on sale by calling on its members to order it to support these actions.
