A new fire and rescue center is due to open in October 2025 near Toulouse. The premises, of more than 1,000 m², will be located in the town of Pibrac.
It's an unprecedented day in Pibrac. The city in western Toulouse will have a fire and rescue center at the end of 2025, the 40e of Haute-Garonne. The first stone was laid this Tuesday in the presence of local, national and departmental elected officials, all happy to see this project come to fruition.
Until now, western Toulouse suffered from a lack of barracks in the sector. Apart from Colomiers, Aussonne, Grenade, Saint-Lys and Cadours, elected officials expressed a real need for firefighters around Pibrac. With these new premises, of more than 1,000 m², firefighters will intervene in a large area, between La Salvetat-Saint-Gilles and Menville, via Léguevin, Lévignac, and even Mérenvielle.
10 professional firefighters and 38 volunteers will be assigned to the new Pibracean structure. A satisfaction for Denise Cortijo, the mayor of Pibrac. “We are experiencing a founding and symbolic moment. The citizens of our territories will benefit from reinforced protection on a daily basis,” greets the elected official.
On the side of the departmental council, the main financier of the Haute-Garonne departmental fire and rescue service, the arrival of a new barracks responds to the demographic growth of the department. “Every year, we welcome 17,000 inhabitants, the equivalent of a town like Balma which is being built, or Saint-Gaudens one and a half times,” explains Jean-Louis Llorca, vice-president of the departmental security council. The new fire and rescue center will see the light of day in October 2025, after a year of work.
