Taiwan ready to support Haiti in the fight against insecurity, says Ambassador Cheng-hao Hu

Security in Haiti is becoming a priority in bilateral cooperation with Taiwan, according to Cheng-hao Hu, Taiwan’s ambassador to Haiti. During an interview with the newspaper Le Nouvelliste this Tuesday, November 26, the diplomat announced that his country is determined to contribute to the fight against the insecurity plaguing the country.

Port-au-prince, Wednesday November 27, 2024

Restoring security is one of our priorities. This is also why I was assigned to Haiti: to work with the government to identify areas where we can intervene within the framework of bilateral cooperation, said Cheng-hao Hu.

Taiwan has already begun collaboration with the Haitian authorities, notably by providing support to the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd’H). The ambassador indicated that he is in discussions with the government to strengthen this support, specifying that Taiwan is ready to act in concert with the international community and the Multidimensional Security Support Mission (MMAS).

I am convinced that with the help of Taiwan and the international community, security will be restored sooner or later, he said optimistically.

Asked about possible material aid for the security forces, the ambassador confirmed that discussions are underway regarding the supply of equipment for the PNH. “We are currently evaluating how best to meet this demand. However, I prefer not to go into details at the moment,” he added.

This support is part of a desire to strengthen ties between the two nations, through targeted initiatives to stabilize Haiti and guarantee the security of its population.
