Mortal Kombat 1 already dead? It would have gone very badly

Is Mortal Kombat 1 already doomed to end in part? According to an alleged leak, NetherRealm Studios made a decision that will not go down well with fans who were expecting a long follow-up.

Despite very solid returns, and more than 4 million copies sold, Mortal Kombat 1 seems to disappoint. After welcoming the legendary Ghostface on November 19, the killer of the Scream saga, a backpedal seems to be underway. Obviously, the developers could already move on, at least partially, while the game is still very new. Mortal Kombat 1 already dead? That would have gone very badly…

No Kombat Pack 3 for Mortal Kombat 1?

Ghostface (Scream), who was one of the promised fighters of Kombat Pack 2, is now in Mortal Kombat 1. A character faithful to the series created by Wes Craven right down to his movements, one of his Fatalities completely playing the card meta. But in all likelihood, this Kombattant could well be one of the very last in the game. According to Reddit user FateUnknown, who has already leaked information about the license, it would smell very bad for the title. If the next guests T-1000 (Terminator 2) and Conan The Barbarian are not canceled, Mortal Kombat 1 may not have a Kombat Pack 3. In other words, the follow-up to this episode would probably be much shorter than expected in the plans initials from NetherRealm Studios.

Why cancel Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Pack 3 and give up on new DLC? If we are to believe the words of FateUnknown, this would be due to the disappointing reception of the Reign of Khaos Pack. « A Kombat Pack 3 and a second story expansion were planned. All this has was canceled recently, and there won't be any new characters after Kombat Pack 2. A Kameo or two might arrive as work has been done on it. More I don't know yet what it is ». Reign of Khaos, which would not have met with the expected success, includes the story expansion of the same name, or even Kombat Pack 2 – with early access to guest fighters from Mortal Kombat 1.

Towards the early end of MK1? Yes and no. If this rumor is confirmed, NetherRealm will certainly still offer free updates, particularly balancing ones, so as not to neglect the community. On the other hand, it would be a nail in the coffin of additional content. Recently the studio has already killed the mobile Mortal Kombat Onslaught. Warner has in any case shown his support assuring that he wants “put in extra work” on several key franchises like MK.
