Youth League match report: Liverpool 0-1 Real Madrid

Liverpool almost leveled immediately after the break, as Rio Ngumoha’s low ball paved the way for a dangerous opening for the Reds.

Real goalkeeper Alvaro Gonzalez tried to clear and was caught off his line. Michael Laffey saw an effort on target from outside the penalty area cleared by the defense.

Kone-Doherty then saw a header brilliantly saved from a second Ngumoha cross as Gonzalez palmed home his close-range effort from the underside of the crossbar.

In response, Misciur was again forced to take a quick shot at the end of a short break for the visitors, pushing past Jesus Fortea this time, before Jaime Barroso headed wide from a corner.

Yanez also fired a low shot wide of the mark as the two teams continued to exchange opportunities.

Josh Davidson also saw a low shot towards goal deflected by the retreating Madrid defense as another ball from Ngumoha found its way in from the left.

Liverpool exerted strong pressure even though Real’s threat at the break was clear. Lucky made another strong challenge on the edge of the penalty area to stop their latest counter-attack.

Misciur was also called into action once again to push away a shot from distance, as was Gonzalez at the other end.

The Reds, however, failed to find much of a leveler in the latter stages, leaving them narrowly beaten on Merseyside.
