Nurseries no longer have fir trees to supply to the town of Pouilly-en-Auxois (Côte-d'Or). For the end of year celebrations, the town hall decided to replace them with a few branches.
After initial warnings in recent years, drought seems to have had a major impact on fir production in certain regions. In Côte-d'Or, the small town of Pouilly-en-Auxois will not be able to install conifers in its streets for the holidays, relays France Blue Burgundy. In a letter sent to traders on Tuesday, November 26, the town hall explained that nurseries were experiencing a shortage of fir trees.
Branches instead of fir trees
The town of around 1,500 inhabitants had planned to order trees whose size varies between 1 m and 1 m 40. But the specialized brands no longer have them, the fault of the lack of water which prevented the species from develop.
The elected officials of Pouilly-en-Auxois therefore decided to replace the Christmas trees with a few branches to decorate certain places in the village.
