why Olise and Kompany had to change shin guards and jackets in the middle of a match

Michael Olise, French international for Bayern Munich, was caught by the referee before coming on against PSG due to a small problem with his shin guards. Vincent Kompany was forced to change… his jacket.

Bayern Munich experienced some logistical problems on Tuesday against PSG (1-0). When he entered the game, Michael Olise (22 years old) explained himself for a few moments with the fourth referee who invited him to change his shin guards. The French international (four caps) expressed his incomprehension before briefly returning to the sidelines to respect the assistant's request.

He finally came on in place of Kingsley Coman… before shedding his (very small) shin guards a few moments later by throwing them to the side of the field. He therefore concluded the meeting without his mandatory protections.

Kompany did not understand

This little setback before the winger came into play somewhat annoyed Vincent Kompany, Bayern coach who also sought to understand the reason for the request from the fourth Romanian referee, Florin Andrei. “So far, there has never been a problem with the shin guards. All of a sudden, it became a problem today. It made us lose a little time,” lamented the Belgian at the end of the match without having clarified the precise nature of the referee's request.

“It was perhaps too specific an interpretation of the rules,” he added. “Eventually we swapped his shin guards. I don't know exactly what the reason was, but I'm going to find out.”

The former Manchester City defender also rubbed shoulders with the somewhat zealous refereeing body who asked him to change his black jacket four minutes after kick-off. So he spent almost the entire meeting simply covered in a red hoodie. “I have no idea. I was told I had to change my jacket. I didn't ask why. It wasn't worth it for me,” he smiled at the conference. press.
