The motorists would have followed the instructions of Google Maps, entering a bridge partly destroyed during flooding.
An investigation was opened in India against Google Maps, the mapping service of the American technology giant, after the death of three people who were in a car that fell from a bridge with part of the deck missing, reported Tuesday local media.
The three men were on their way to a wedding in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday morning when the vehicle plunged from the structure, part of which had been swept away during floods a few months ago.

Police intend to pursue the Google navigation system along with representatives of the public works department, the Press Trust of India news agency said.
The driver was following the route indicated by Google Maps when he took this road, the Hindustan Times daily said on Tuesday, citing police officials.
“We send our deepest condolences to the families. We are working closely with the authorities and supporting the investigation,” a Google spokesperson was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
The accident comes a year after the deaths of two doctors in the southern state of Kerala whose car plunged into the Periyar River after following directions given by the navigation system.
