On this November 25the Caribbean region joins the call of CLOC-Via Campesina Global movement for justice and food sovereignty. We affirm our opposition to wars, genocides, undemocratic interference in our countries, as well as blockades and social injustice. It is imperative to continue collective and coordinated struggles to denounce and put an end to the historical violence exercised against women and social structures in our rural areas.
The United Nations defines violence against women as “any act of gender-based violence that results in or threatens to result in physical, sexual or psychological harm, including threats, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty , whether in public or private life.
We repeat these words because it is obvious that women continue to face VIOLENCE, whether it is women in our countries, our homes or our organizations. These realities are deeply rooted in patriarchy, in the violations of women's territories, bodies and lives.
This November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, CLOC-Via Campesina declares: “Enough violence against women, no more silence!” We resist and confront patriarchy and capitalism! » We denounce all forms of violence that continue to affect women, whether they live in the countryside or in the city. We affirm that capitalism is the main source of inequality and that it generates other forms of violence; this is why our struggle is also a class struggle.
Organizations from the Caribbean region join the people of the world and rural organizations who, today, bring a proposal in favor of NON-violence and true food sovereignty! This remains a strategy of struggle of peasants for land, water, popular and comprehensive agrarian reform, and agroecology, by promoting food and production based on life and dignified work for the people. of the world. We assume as fundamental principles relationships based on fairness and respect, while reaffirming our slogan: “Food sovereignty now!” »
Farmers from around the world, organized within CLOC Via Campesina in this Caribbean region, declare: “Yes to equality and justice, enough violence, no to wars!” » We want to build a life without violence, without distinction or exploitation towards women.
”When the whole world is silent, one voice becomes powerful. “
“This day is not a celebration, it is a day of struggle and resistance.”
