An explosion occurred on Monday, shortly after 4:00 p.m., in a building located on Chemin de la Petite-Boissière, in the Geneva district of Grange-Canal. A young girl was seriously injured, the Geneva Public Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release on Tuesday.

The procedure was taken over by the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPC). The latter has sole jurisdiction in cases involving the use of explosives, adds the Geneva judiciary. On Monday, the Geneva police sealed off the area in order to carry out the first steps in the investigation.

The media reported, Monday evening, the presence of a parcel bomb in the lobby of the building where the explosion occurred.

Another affair last August

In a press release published early Tuesday afternoon, the MPC specifies that the young girl injured by the explosion is 12 years old. The unfortunate woman was taken to hospital by ambulance. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office also notes that the first elements collected on site confirm the use of “explosive material”.

This case is reminiscent of another, which took place last August in the Geneva district of Saint-Jean, this time. A man was injured in the leg when he picked up a garbage bag placed in front of the landing of his apartment. The bag had exploded in his hands.

According to the MPC, “investigations are currently underway to examine all possible avenues. This includes a potential link with the explosion that occurred on August 20, 2024 in St-Jean.” (ats)
