In 2021, the outgoing Prime Minister, Tim Houston, had succeeded in bringing back the Progressive Conservatives at the head of the province, who had not been in power since 2009.
If that evening, the province was largely tinged with blue, the Halifax region, where half of the province’s voters live, was divided between the Liberals and the NPD.

This is what the Halifax region looked like on election night in 2021. The riding of Preston was won by the Progressive Conservatives in a by-election and the riding of Halifax Atlantic went to the Blues when Liberal MP Brendan Maguire left his party to join the camp of outgoing Prime Minister Tim Houston.

At the dissolution, the Progressive Conservatives had 34 of the 55 seats, the Liberals 14, the NDP 6 and there was one independent member.
On election night in 2021, the results were a little different. The Progressive Conservatives had 31 MPs compared to 17 for the Liberals.

On the evening of August 17, 2021, Nova Scotia had become overwhelmingly blue.

During the mandate, the party of Tim Houston managed to take three seats from the Liberals thanks to a victory in a by-election in Preston and by attracting two defectors from the Liberal Party: Brendan Maguire turned blue in February and Fred Tilley who fled the Liberals a few days before the election was called.

Voters have been able to vote since 8 a.m. Tuesday morning in the majority of polling stations in the province.

The results were initially scheduled to be released at 8 p.m. ADT, when polls closed across the province. However, the late opening in only one polling station in the province causes a delay in the publication of the results. These will be published starting at 9 p.m. AT.
