Commenting on Bayern-PSG on Canal+ on Tuesday evening, Sidney Govou regretted the exclusion of Ousmane Dembélé for a second yellow card, believing that the referee of the match was determined to exclude the French international.
Sidney Govou is obviously a fan of Ousmane Dembélé but we wonder why. “Dembouz” was once again catastrophic with PSG, during the Champions League clash
against BayernTuesday evening at the Allianz Arena in Munich. Certainly, Luis Enrique once again turned everything upside down by opting for a 4-4-2 and “Dembouz” found himself as a right attacker with no center forward to feed. He didn't complete a single dribble in the game, missing his shots and finally being sent off before the hour mark!
“I think there is a mistake. Big mistake, it remains to be seen. Dembélé is late, that’s for sure”first launched Sidney Govou on Canal+ Foot to the exclusion of the 2018 world champion. Already warned for protest in the first period (37th), the former Barcelona player, after a blocked strike in front of the Bayern goal, made a tackle on Alphonso Davies, hitting the Canadian full-back head-on. A fairly useless gesture but above all likely to cause him to receive a second warning, which was the case (57th).
Govou: “From the start he decided to give up”
Govou, consultant alongside journalist François Marchal, then charged the Romanian referee of the game, Mr. Kovacs. “I find it harsh that he drew extremely quickly, we have the impression from the start that he decided to get the card, he let the advantage play out, I find this second card harsh”railed the former OL and French team winger (49 caps from 2002 to 2010).
And to add: “He played the ball, it was afterwards with the other leg (that he mows down Davies, editor’s note)I find that the referee was harsh, too quick in his decision-making”. By calling a foul by Dembélé, the referee could have given Dembélé a yellow card in the second or a few moments later and it would have changed nothing. Under no circumstances in this situation can the central referee be called by his video assistant to validate or not a yellow card. The VAR referee can only signal a direct exclusion.
