The participatory forest of Verrières-en-Anjou expands and takes root

For 17 years, around Sainte-Catherine when the saying goes that all wood takes root, children, adults and professionals have participated in the reforestation of a vast area, along the Nationale 23. This green break materializes a plant barrier between leaving and entering the town of Verrières-en-Anjou. “Over the years, more than 2,000 trees have been planted. They contribute to our environmental quality,” explains Claire Demain, elected in charge of this project. In 2024, it is health stakeholders who contribute to its development. “This year, as part of citizen planting, we are planting, in the presence of members of the ADOT association (Association for the donation of human organs and tissues), a ginkgo biloba, also called the tree of eternity, in tribute to organ donation, to patients waiting for hope and to all those who work alongside them in the face of illness. »

An impressive tree

The life force of this tree is impressive. It symbolizes the crossing of generations. “This is why he was chosen, continues the chosen one. To highlight the strength, patience and courage it takes to face illness, the commitment of patients, their loved ones, all caregivers, and especially the generosity of organ donation. A simple and generous act, organ donation remains insufficiently practiced even though for thousands of people waiting, it brings hope of life. »

Next week, elementary school students will continue the participatory approach on this 58-hectare space including the golf course, the children's forest, the conservation orchard and the citizen forest. In total, more than 5,000 trees provide vital oxygen and keep the hummingbird effect going with this small gesture from each person.
